Overview

kintone MCP Server

kintone MCP Server lets an AI assistant explore and update kintone app records via natural language, with per-app access control. Use it for conversational kintone data access; the project is superseded by Cybozu's official kintone MCP server, which new adopters should prefer.

What it does

kintone MCP Server lets an AI assistant explore and manipulate data in kintone, Cybozu's business application platform, so you can ask things like "what is the latest status of Customer A's project?" or "update the progress of Project B to 50%" in natural language. Access can be scoped per app using KINTONE_ALLOW_APPS and KINTONE_DENY_APPS (deny takes priority over allow), and authentication supports either username/password or one or more comma-separated API tokens.

Announcement: Cybozu has released the official kintone MCP server. This project's author considers its role fulfilled and will not add new features - use and contribute to the official server going forward.

When to use - and when NOT to

Use this connector when you want an assistant to query or update kintone app records conversationally - checking project status or updating a field - in an existing kintone environment.

Do not adopt this project for new setups given it is now superseded by Cybozu's official kintone MCP server, which receives ongoing development; evaluate that instead. Also ensure KINTONE_ALLOW_APPS/KINTONE_DENY_APPS are scoped appropriately, since without restriction all apps are accessible by default.

Inputs and outputs

Inputs are natural-language requests referencing kintone apps and records (e.g. a customer or project name). Outputs are the corresponding kintone record data, status, or confirmation of an update, scoped to whichever apps are allowed by the access control configuration.

Usage

1. Install

Download the latest release from the release page.
You can place the executable file anywhere you like.

2. Configure MCP client like Claude Desktop

Configure your client to connect to the server.

For Claude Desktop, please edit file below:

  • MacOS/Linux: ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json

Environment variables:

  • KINTONE_BASE_URL: (Required) The base URL of your kintone.
  • KINTONE_USERNAME: Your username for kintone.
  • KINTONE_PASSWORD: Your password for kintone.
  • KINTONE_API_TOKEN: Comma separated API token for kintone.
    You need to set either KINTONE_USERNAME and KINTONE_PASSWORD or KINTONE_API_TOKEN.
  • KINTONE_ALLOW_APPS: A comma-separated list of app IDs that you want to allow access. In default, all apps are allowed.
  • KINTONE_DENY_APPS: A comma-separated list of app IDs that you want to deny access. The deny has a higher priority than the allow.

You may need to restart Claude Desktop to apply the changes.

3. Start to use

Now you can interact with kintone using your own AI tools!

For example, you can say:

  • "What is the latest status of Customer A's project?"
  • "Update the progress of Project B to 50%."
  • "Show me the projects that are behind schedule."
