Optimize Odoo Manufacturing Operations

Odoo Manufacturing Advisor guides configuration and planning in the Manufacturing, or mrp, module. It covers bills of materials, work centers, operation routing, the production order lifecycle, and material requirements planning. The user supplies a manufacturing scenario and receives instructions for configuration, scheduler use, and interpretation of procurement messages.

Bill-of-materials guidance defines the finished product, production quantity, components, units, and operations. A standard Manufacture This Product bill creates a manufacturing order. A Kit represents a bundle whose components are delivered separately and does not create that order. Subcontracting represents components supplied to a third party that returns the finished product, although its additional receipt and valuation steps are outside the detailed workflow.

Work-center configuration covers working hours, time efficiency, simultaneous capacity, an Overall Equipment Effectiveness target, and hourly costs for manufacturing cost reporting. Routing connects operations to their work centers and expected durations. Work Orders must be enabled to use routing and track time for individual operations.

Use it to structure bills for finished goods, configure work-center capacity, plan purchase and production orders from demand, or troubleshoot component availability and production discrepancies. It is also relevant when product variants would otherwise lead to duplicated bills of materials.

The skill covers Manufacturing rather than the separate Maintenance, PLM, or Quality modules. Detailed subcontracting procedures are not included. Lot and serial traceability adds complexity, so check a small batch before wider use. Planning assumes demand comes from sale orders and reordering rules; forecasts from external systems require a custom integration.

The scheduler can run through its daily cron job or be triggered manually from replenishment menus. Menu placement may differ by Odoo version. After a run, the workflow reviews exceptions: Replenish indicates stock below the minimum, Reschedule indicates an order date that conflicts with demand, and Cancel indicates demand that no longer exists.

Recommended practices include using product attributes for variant bills, setting vendor and security lead times so procurement is scheduled in advance, and recording defective components through scrap orders. Manual stock corrections would lose the intended production record. The skill also warns against creating purchase orders independently for MRP-managed items without a justified reason to override suggestions.

Manufacturing planning uses Odoo Inventory replenishment, sale orders, reordering rules, purchase orders, and manufacturing orders. Work Orders enables operation routing and time tracking. Product attributes support variant-aware bills, and scrap orders record production waste. External forecasting data is a separate integration requirement.
