Graylog
This MCP server connects Claude to Graylog for production log debugging - timestamp and stream-scoped search, distributed trace following, surrounding-log context, and field aggregation. Use it to debug a live production issue from Claude, with a Graylog API token and either an error timestamp or trace ID in hand. It's read-only against Graylog's search API.
What it does
This MCP server connects Claude to a Graylog instance for production log debugging: searching logs by absolute or relative timestamp windows, filtering by application stream, following a distributed trace across services, and aggregating error counts by field.
When to use - and when NOT to
Use it when you need to debug a production issue directly from Claude - you have a Graylog API token with read access and either a specific error timestamp or a trace ID to investigate. It's read-only against Graylog's search API; it won't modify streams, alerts, or Graylog configuration, and every timestamp must be ISO 8601.
Capabilities
Eight tools: search_logs_absolute (query between explicit from/to timestamps), search_logs_relative (query the last N seconds, up to 24 hours), trace_request (follow one trace_id across every stream/service, sorted chronologically per service), get_surrounding_logs (logs within ±N seconds of a timestamp, optionally scoped by source/pod/stream), analyze_incident (a composite tool that fans out to the trace, pod-scoped surrounding logs around the first error, and a trailing-hour error baseline in one call - saving several LLM orchestration round-trips), aggregate_logs (count log entries grouped by a field like service or http_status, with a missing count flagging log-hygiene gaps), list_streams (discover stream IDs), and get_system_info (Graylog version and health, the first stop for troubleshooting connection issues).
As a Claude Code plugin it also ships four skills (graylog, trace-debugging, incident-triage, troubleshooting) that map natural-language questions to the right tool, plus a graylog-trace-analyzer subagent for large trace investigations (200+ log lines or 5+ services) that returns a condensed timeline and root-cause verdict instead of dumping raw logs into the conversation.

API_TOKEN is generated in Graylog under System → Users → Edit tokens; it's used as the username in Basic Auth with "token" as the password. A local checkout works too (git clone + npm install, pointing command at node and the cloned src/index.js).
Who it's for
On-call engineers and developers debugging production incidents who want Claude to search logs, trace a request across microservices, and aggregate error patterns directly, instead of switching to the Graylog web UI. Common Elasticsearch-syntax queries include level:ERROR, status:>=400, duration_ms:>1000 for slow requests, and _exists_:error_code to find messages that carry a particular field at all. 2. search_logs_relative
Search logs using relative time range (e.g., last 15 minutes). Useful for recent log analysis.
Parameters:

3. trace_request
Trace a request across ALL services using a trace_id. Fetches logs from every stream, groups by service/pod, and sorts each service's messages chronologically. Essential for distributed debugging in microservice architectures.

4. get_surrounding_logs
Return logs within ±N seconds of a timestamp, optionally filtered by source/pod/stream. Reveals what happened immediately before and after an error.

5. analyze_incident
Composite tool. One call fans out to three searches and returns an aggregated incident report - saves 2-3 LLM orchestration rounds when investigating a specific trace.
Internally executes:
- The full trace hop chain (
trace_id:X) - Pod-scoped surrounding logs around the first ERROR/CRITICAL/FATAL hop (filters by
pod:to avoid multi-tenant noise on shared hosts) - A trailing-hour error baseline for the anchor service

6. aggregate_logs
Count log entries grouped by a field - Graylog's most-used operation, made one-call. Issues a single search with fields=<group_field> projected (so only the column you want is downloaded) and aggregates client-side. Replaces Graylog 5.x's removed legacy terms-aggregation endpoint.

7. list_streams
List all available Graylog streams (applications). Use this to discover stream IDs for filtering.
