Overview

Keyword Research Skill

This skill researches and prioritizes keywords for any topic or niche. It delivers tiered recommendations from quick-win long-tail phrases to aspirational high-volume targets, with estimated search volume, difficulty scores (0-100), and CPC context. The skill uses browser SERP inspection and API data (when available) to identify ranking content formats and conversion opportunities. Use this skill when planning a new content strategy, identifying SEO targets for a site launch, or prioritizing owner-supplied keywords against competitive reality. It fits agencies managing multiple niches, in-house teams launching products, and solo operators who need structured research without expensive tools but must validate all estimates with live data before committing resources.

What it does

This skill performs keyword research for any topic, niche, or website. It delivers tiered keyword recommendations - from quick-win long-tail phrases to aspirational high-volume targets - with estimated search volume, difficulty scores, and CPC context. The skill uses browser-based SERP inspection and API data (when available) to identify the problems people are searching to solve, the content formats that rank, and the conversion opportunities each query represents.

When to use - and when NOT to

Activate this skill when you need to identify which keywords to target for a new site, content campaign, or SEO strategy refresh. Trigger it with phrases like "keyword research", "find keywords for", "what should I rank for", "best keywords for [topic]", or "SEO keywords for [niche]". Use it to prioritize owner-supplied keywords, discover competitor gaps, or map search intent to specific pages.

Do NOT use this skill as your sole source of truth for volume or difficulty data. All figures are directional estimates based on semantic analysis and competitive signals, not live API feeds. Always validate recommendations with Ahrefs, SEMrush, or Google Keyword Planner before committing budget or resources to a full content strategy. Do not use this skill to silently replace owner-supplied keyword priorities with guessed alternatives.

Inputs and outputs

You provide a structured JSON input specifying the topic, business type, target audience, content goal (rank, convert, educate, or all), optional location for local SEO, intent focus (informational, transactional, commercial, navigational, or all), up to three competitor URLs, any existing keywords you care about, site context from audits or product descriptions, and research mode (browser, API, both, or unavailable).

{
  "topic": "string - the subject to research keywords for",
  "business_type": "string - what the business or site does",
  "target_audience": "string - who the content is for",
  "content_goal": "rank | convert | educate | all",
  "location": "string - optional, country or city for local SEO",
  "intent_focus": "informational | transactional | commercial | navigational | all",
  "competitor_urls": ["string - optional, up to 3 competitor URLs to inform keyword gaps"],
  "user_keywords": ["string - optional keywords the owner already cares about"],
  "site_context": "string - optional audit findings, page list, or product description",
  "research_mode": "browser | api | both | unavailable - default both"
}

You receive a markdown report with seed keywords, three priority tiers (target first, build toward, long-term goals), long-tail opportunities, and AEO question-based keywords. Each keyword includes estimated monthly search volume (very high to very low), difficulty score (0-100), estimated CPC, dominant search intent, and the recommended content type to create. For each important query, the skill records the exact query, market/device context when known, dominant result intent, problems and questions visible in results, ranking content formats, conversion opportunity, the page that should own the query, and the date/source and confidence level.

Who it's for

This skill is built for SEO strategists, content marketers, and site owners who need to move from guesswork to evidence-based keyword targeting. It serves agencies managing multiple client niches, in-house teams launching new product lines, and solo operators who lack expensive keyword tools but need structured, repeatable research. The skill prioritizes problem-related queries the product can genuinely solve, ensuring search intent outranks attractive but irrelevant volume.
