Polish Text and Documents Professionally

This skill transforms flawed writing - pasted text or uploaded documents - into publication-ready prose without altering the author's intent. It eliminates grammatical, spelling, punctuation, clarity, and tone issues while strictly preserving the author's voice and intent, returning a corrected version plus a structured modification log, or generating an updated file when requested. It is explicitly not for code editing or technical refactoring.

It operates in two modes, each with its own dedicated reference document for full procedural detail. Inline Text Mode handles pasted text directly, documented in a separate inline-text-mode reference. File Processing Mode triggers on phrases like "Proofread [filename].[extension]", "Edit this document", "Correct grammar in this file", "Save updated version", "Add prefix UPDATED_", or "Return corrected .[extension]" - it saves the corrected output as a new file with a UPDATED_ prefix, documented in a separate file-processing-mode reference.

Editing standards cover five areas: grammar (subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, article usage, prepositions, pronoun clarity), spelling (correcting typos while maintaining the original US/UK spelling variant), punctuation (commas, apostrophes, quotation marks, sentence boundaries), style and tone (maintaining the author's voice, avoiding unnecessary formalization, preserving rhetorical choices), and readability (improving structure, enhancing logical flow, removing redundancy). Quality is held to a standard equivalent to academic proofreading, business document refinement, or pre-publication review, with modification explanations always included. Hard constraints: never alter meaning, never drop formatting intentionally, never change file naming logic beyond what was requested, and never expand the content.

Output rules differ by mode: inline requests return the corrected version plus a modifications list; file rewrites save the updated file, confirm the filename, and provide a modifications list unless suppressed - both end with a friendly message to the user.
