Overview

Product Marketing Context

A skill that builds and maintains a reusable product-marketing context file covering positioning, audience, competitors, objections, and brand voice for other marketing skills to reference. Use it at the start of a marketing project, or whenever the user is repeating ICP, messaging, or product basics across different marketing tasks.

What it does

Helps create and maintain a reusable product-marketing context document at .agents/product-marketing-context.md that captures foundational positioning and messaging - product overview, target audience, personas, pain points, competitive landscape, differentiation, objections, switching dynamics (the JTBD Four Forces: push, pull, habit, anxiety), verbatim customer language, brand voice, proof points, and goals - so other marketing skills can reference it instead of the user re-explaining ICP, messaging, and product basics every time. If the file already exists, it reads and summarizes what's captured and only gathers info for the sections the user wants to update. If it doesn't exist, it offers to auto-draft a first version by studying the codebase (README, landing pages, marketing copy, package.json, existing docs) for the user to correct and fill gaps in - noted as the option most users prefer - or to walk through each section conversationally from scratch, one section at a time rather than dumping every question at once, pushing for verbatim customer language over polished descriptions since exact phrases reflect how customers actually think and speak.

When to use - and when NOT to

Use it when creating a reusable product, audience, and positioning context file, at the start of a marketing project before running more specialized marketing skills, or whenever the user wants to stop re-explaining their ICP, messaging, and product basics on every request. Not every product needs every section - the Personas section applies mainly to B2B products with multiple buying stakeholders and can be skipped for B2C. It is not a substitute for environment-specific validation, testing, or expert review.

Inputs and outputs

Input is either the existing .agents/product-marketing-context.md file (for updates) or codebase artifacts plus conversational answers (for a fresh draft) across twelve sections: product overview, target audience, personas, problems and pain points, competitive landscape (direct, secondary, and indirect competitors), differentiation, objections and anti-personas, switching dynamics, customer language, brand voice, proof points, and goals. Output is the completed markdown document saved to .agents/product-marketing-context.md, structured with tables for personas, objections, glossary terms, and value-theme proof points, plus headed sections for each of the twelve areas above and a last-updated date.

Integrations

Designed to be read by other marketing skills automatically once saved, so positioning and messaging are defined once rather than repeated in every marketing task; it can be re-run anytime (invoked as /product-marketing-context) to update the document.

Who it's for

Marketers, founders, and product teams who want one canonical positioning and messaging reference - competitors, differentiation, objections, verbatim customer language, brand voice - that every other marketing skill or task can pull from instead of re-deriving it each time.
