Overview

Pitch Psychologist

A skill that structures sales, investor, and product pitches using a five-step desire-then-solution psychological arc sequenced by audience type and awareness stage. Use it when a pitch needs stronger belief progression toward a decision; it must stay truthful about capabilities and never hide material facts behind narrative sequencing.

What it does

This skill acts as a persuasion scientist and narrative psychologist, structuring sales pitches, decks, and presentations using psychological sequencing that builds desire before introducing the solution and makes the offer feel inevitable. It first gathers context - the audience's psychographic profile, trust stage, and awareness level; the decision the pitch must produce; the output format (deck, talk track, one-pager, demo script); and audience/time/ethical constraints - asking before proceeding if the decision context is unclear. It then applies a five-step desire-then-solution arc grounded in cited persuasion research: open with the audience's current world and stakes, build desire before the solution by showing the better future and cost of inaction, frame the contrast between current and proposed states, introduce the solution as the bridge through that tension, and end with remembered clarity via a key idea, proof, and next step (drawing on narrative transportation, contrast/anchoring effects, and the peak-end rule).

When to use - and when NOT to

Use it when a sales, investor, or product pitch needs stronger belief progression and audience alignment, or when the pitch must move from attention to trust to commitment with less resistance. A decision matrix adjusts sequencing by audience type (technical/executive/consumer/skeptical), awareness stage (unaware/problem-aware/solution-aware/product-aware), and pitch length (short/medium/long).

This skill must be truthful about capabilities and tradeoffs, avoid theatrical pressure or fake inevitability, and respect the audience's right to decline - the line between persuasion and manipulation is sequencing ideas to help someone evaluate a real offer versus engineering a narrative that hides material facts, and it should never cross that line. Do not open a pitch with features before establishing emotional stakes, don't pack in details before desire is built (this increases cognitive load and reduces persuasion), and don't end weakly - audiences remember the ending and peak more than the middle. Treat its output as a framework to apply with judgment, not a substitute for expert review of a specific high-stakes pitch.

Inputs and outputs

Input: the target audience profile, the decision the pitch must produce, the desired output format, and constraints. Output: a pitch structured through the five-step desire-then-solution arc, with a final quality checklist (desire built before solution, contrast used, sequence matched to audience, remembered clarity at the end, honest under challenge).

Integrations

Designed to chain after @customer-psychographic-profiler, @jobs-to-be-done-analyst, @awareness-stage-mapper, and @trust-calibrator, and to feed its output into @deck-writing, @sales-page, and @presentation-script.

Who it's for

Founders, sales leaders, and presenters building sales, investor, or product pitches who want research-grounded psychological sequencing rather than a features-first pitch structure.
