Page Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO)
Scores a page's conversion readiness across six weighted categories (value proposition, CTA focus, traffic match, trust, friction, objections), then produces prioritized CRO recommendations and testable hypotheses. Use when diagnosing why a specific page isn't converting, before deciding whether to run A/B tests on it.
What it does
Page Conversion Rate Optimization diagnoses why a page is or isn't converting, assesses its structural readiness for optimization, and produces prioritized, evidence-based recommendations - explicitly not guaranteeing conversion lifts or recommending changes without explaining why they matter. Before giving any CRO advice it requires calculating a Page Conversion Readiness & Impact Index (0-100), scored across six weighted categories: Value Proposition Clarity (25 points - understood in five seconds, with a specific and differentiated benefit), Conversion Goal Focus (20 - one clear primary action with an intentional CTA hierarchy), Traffic-Message Match (15 - headline and hero aligned with the visitor's upstream intent), Trust & Credibility Signals (15 - relevant, substantiated social proof placed at decision points), Friction & UX Barriers (15 - fast load, mobile-friendly, minimal form fields), and Objection Handling (10 - anticipates and resolves "will this work for me?"). Scores map to four readiness bands - High (85-100, test optimizations), Moderate (70-84, fix key issues first), Low (55-69, foundational problems), and Not Conversion-Ready (under 55) - and testing is explicitly not recommended below a score of 70.
When to use - and when NOT to
Use this skill when diagnosing why a specific page - homepage, campaign landing page, pricing page, feature/product page, or content page with a CTA - is or isn't converting, before running A/B tests on it. It explicitly withholds an A/B-testing recommendation when traffic is too low, the page score is under 70, the value proposition is unclear, or the conversion goal is ambiguous - fundamentals must be fixed first.
Inputs and outputs
After scoring, Phase 1 establishes context: page type, exactly one primary conversion goal with secondary goals explicitly demoted, and traffic source/intent if known. Phase 2 then runs a six-area diagnostic in impact order - value proposition and headline clarity, CTA strategy and hierarchy, visual hierarchy and scannability, trust and social proof, objection handling (with named resolution mechanisms like FAQs, guarantees, comparisons, and process transparency), and friction/UX barriers. Output follows a required format: a Conversion Readiness Summary (score, verdict, key limiting factors), Quick Wins (low-effort, high-confidence, no testing needed), High-Impact Improvements (structural/messaging changes requiring design or copy effort, validated via testing), Testable Hypotheses (each with a hypothesis, what changes, expected behavioral impact, and primary success metric), and 2-3 copy alternatives for headlines/subheadlines/CTAs with rationale tied to user intent. Page-type-specific guidance covers homepages (positioning plus audience routing), landing pages (message match plus single CTA), pricing pages (clarity plus risk reduction), feature pages (benefit framing plus proof), and blog pages (contextual CTAs).
Integrations
Related skills handle adjacent CRO concerns: signup-flow-cro for post-page drop-off, form-cro when the form itself is the bottleneck, popup-cro for overlay considerations, copywriting for a full messaging rewrite, and ab-test-setup for test execution and instrumentation. If baseline data is missing, the skill asks for current conversion rate, traffic sources and intent, what happens after the page, existing heatmap or recording data, and past experiments.
Who it's for
Growth and marketing teams diagnosing an underperforming page who want a structural readiness score before investing in A/B tests - avoiding cosmetic CRO and premature testing on pages with fundamental value-proposition or conversion-goal problems.
